Wednesday’s under-18s defeated Cardiff 3-2 to win their Professional Development League National Play-Off Final at Hillsborough on Friday evening and so complete a great double success for the season.
The youngsters led 2-0 at half time with goals from Charles Hagan and Charlie Reaney but the Welsh side pulled a goal back through Daniel Griffiths.
Elliott Vasalo restored our two-goal lead almost straightaway before Ben Margertson made it 3-2 to ensure a nailbiting finish.
Cardiff were reduced to nine men, with Griffiths and Kieron Evans both receiving late red cards, and it was Wednesday who ran out winners … adding the national trophy to the Professional Development League North Division title they already had under their belts.
