‘It was good to get that first league win’

Darren Moore was pleased to see his Wednesday side get a first league win of the season under their belts at MK Dons today.

Speaking after the 1-0 victory, Moore said: “It was good to get the three points and the clean sheet. You want to get it as early as possible in the season. Every team wants to get off and running.

“I think we were good in the opening 45 minutes. We did our jobs in the second half and we didn’t let our concentration levels drop.

“A lot of teams will come here and not see a lot of the ball. When you get hold of the ball, it is what you do with it. I thought we showed our power today. They struggled in the first half to deal with it, which was credit to the boys.”

On keeper David Stockdale, Moore said: “He’s made some top-class saves today and some others went straight down his throat but that’s because his positioning is spot-on.

“The one where the lad Kemp went through and tried to guide one into the far post, Stocko has seen it and got a vital hand to it. He’s had a great afternoon and credit to him.”

And speaking of the 6,000-plus Wednesday fans, he added: “It looked incredible. Milton Keynes certainly know when Sheffield Wednesday are in town and we’re delighted our fans are going home with smiles on their faces tonight.”

Akin Famewo was forced off just before the half-hour mark, the Owls boss saying it looks like a muscle injury and that he will be assessed on Monday.
