Iorfa returns … Brown makes debut … but 2-0 defeat

Wednesday slipped to a pre-season friendly defeat after a 2-0 reverse at Barnsley today in a match that saw a return for Dominic Iorfa and a debut from recent signing Jaden Brown.

Olamide Shodipo had an early chance saved by Jack Walton and then Julian Borner’s effort was foiled by the keeper.

Cameron Dawson made an excellent save at the other end when Devante Cole struck from the edge of the box on 17 minutes before Barnsley took the lead soon afterwards, Jordan Williams’ long-range shot going in off the post.

Callum Paterson missed another Wednesday opening soon after the restart when he tried to lob the keeper and brought a fine stop out of Walton on the hour mark.

That was followed by wholesale changes for the Owls with all bar Julian Borner and a triallist leaving the field, the latter having replaced Josh Windass on 55 minutes after he took a knock.

However, Barnsley increased their lead from close range through Clarke Odour with 20 minutes left.

Soon afterwards, Wednesday introduced Iorfa for Borner, the defender’s first action since getting injured against Barnsley in December but we rarely looked like getting back into the game in the closing stages.
