Injury doubts as Wednesday prepare for Blackpool trip

Blackpool

Wednesday will make late fitness checks on at least three players before naming the side for Tuesday’s trip to Blackpool.

Jermaine Johnson, Seyi Olofinjana and Giles Coke are all doubts for a game that, if Wednesday win, would be a major step towards Championship safety. On the other hand, defeat or a draw would leave us still very much in the remarkable survival battle.

Johnson and Coke suffered injuries against Leeds on Saturday and were substituted while Olofinjana missed the game at Elland Road and is almost certainly out of the Blackpool match.

One player definitely absent against Blackpool will be Gary Madine, who continues to recuperate after suffering a hamstring injury in training. Dave Jones says he might be available for the Ipswich game this weekend or for the Peterborough away match seven days later.

Meanwhile, Danny Pugh could return to the midfield after being ruled out of playing against parent club, Leeds, as part of his loan agreement.

More than half the division are still involved in the scrap to stay up and Tuesday’s other key Championship fixtures see most of them at home – Peterborough entertaining Brighton, Barnsley and Ipswich at home to Derby and Crystal Palace respectively, Wolves hosting Hull, Millwall at home to Watford and Bristol City entertaining Birmingham.

Added to this, there is also a ‘six-pointer’ with Blackburn facing Huddersfield at Ewood Park.
