‘I understand the frustration of the fans’

Carlos Carvalhal said he could understand the frustration of the fans after defeat to bottom club Bolton.

Some of the sellout Wednesday following called for the head coach to resign at the end of the game and Carvalhal said: “I understand the fans’ frustration. I am probably more disappointed than them as it is my team and I am responsible.

“They are unhapy and they have reasons to be unhappy. I agree with them because I am also unhappy.”

However, he added: “We are not far away in points from the first positions and we still believe we can win promotion this season.”

Carvalhal was also critical of the referee, who turned down a late penalty for a challenge on Kieran Lee, claiming it was a clear spot kick and should also have resulted in a red card for the Bolton player.
