‘I never hide and am ready for the game’

Carlos Carvalhal says he is looking forward to Sunday’s Yorkshire derby with Leeds at Hillsborough as Wednesday aim to bounce back from two successive defeats.

The head coach was pleased with the reaction of the team at Birmingham on Wednesday evening, after the huge disappointment of the derby day defeat to Sheff U, and believes that we did enough to get all three points, despite the 1-0 reverse.

He continues to come under fire from some fans, with the team dropping to 14th in the table but, looking to the Leeds game, Carvalhal said: “I feel the hurt, like the fans, but I am completely ready for this moment, so it is not something I can’t manage.

“I feel very, very strong with my team. It might sound very strange for a coach to say this at this time but I am looking forward to the game on Sunday. I want to play that game, I want to see what my players can do against strong opponents, I want to see the atmosphere, I want to see my fans  and I will see the chairman in the stadium.

“I never hide and I am ready for the game.”

He added: “It is not a tragedy in this moment. We can solve the situation, we gave a good answer against Birmingham with our quality of football … and we are sure we will turn the thing.”

And, with regard to his relationship with chairman, Dejphon Chansiri, Carvalhal said: “He doesn’t look at me with different eyes just because we have lost two games in a row.”
