‘I couldn’t ask any more in terms of performance’

Assistant manager Jamie Smith felt Wednesday did enough to take something from the 1-0 defeat at Watford today.

Smith, who took charge of the side after Darren Moore’s positive COVID-19 test on Friday, saw Wednesday fail to convert a clutch of decent chances and said after the Vicarage Road reverse: “I’m disappointed for the lads. I thought we had maybe done enough to get something out of the game.

“It’s good that we’re creating opportunities and hopefully we can carry on doing that and eventually things will fall for us.

“When you look at the stats, the game was even. We were well in the game.

“Maybe in the final third we could have been a little bit better and played forward a little bit earlier at times but I can’t ask any more in terms of the performance.”

Smith added: “There were lots and lots of positives to take from the game. We will continue to be positive with the games that we have left and continue fighting for every single point.”

On the injury front, Smith said Keiren Westwood missed the game as he was still having a problem with his rib injury.
