Hutch back in contention after ban

Sam Hutchinson is expected to return to the Wednesday midfield for Friday night’s home game with Birmingham.

He has missed the last two games through suspension but is likely to come straight back into the side against a Birmingham team who won their first game under Gianfranco Zola – after 11 attempts – when beating Fulham 1-0 on Saturday.

Up front, Jordan Rhodes is in line for his home debut while Steven Fletcher is ruled out as he serves the final game of his three-match ban.

We also wait to see if Tom Lees and Morgan Fox have recovered from injuries which prevented them making the squad for the Wigan game on Friday night.

Wednesday moved back into sixth place and the final play-off spot, on 49 points, after our 1-0 win at Wigan and, with nearest rivals Derby losing at leaders Newcastle on Saturday, we are three points clear of the chasing pack.

Norwich have overtaken Derby into seventh position – but only on goals scored – after victory at Cardiff at the weekend, their third Championship win in succession following a poor run of form towards the end of last year which saw them drop off the pace.

Fifth-placed Leeds are five points ahead of us, but we have a game in hand on them, with Huddersfield a further point clear in fourth, having played the same number of matches as us. Third-placed Reading are seven points in front of Wednesday but have also played one game more.
