Hooper could be back in squad for Stoke clash

Gary Hooper could make his return to the Wednesday first team squad at Stoke tomorrow.

Speaking at Friday morning’s press conference, Steve Bruce hinted that Hooper may well be in the reckoning, although probably on the bench rather than starting.

Hooper, who has been out of first team action for 15 months with a groin injury, has progressed recently with a 45-minute appearance for the under-23s and then in a ‘closed doors’ friendly against Scunthorpe last week when he played for 75 minutes.

Bruce said: “He has put a month together. Whether he is right to start I’m not so sure about that but we could be including him.”

We go into the match still with an outside chance of a play-off place after victory against Blackburn before the international break stretched our unbeaten league run to 11 games and took us to within two points of sixth-placed Aston Villa.
