John and Ian do the presentation honours for London Owls on final day of the season

Long-serving London Owls Ian Colley and John Townsend made the presentation to our Player of the Season, young Mark Beevers.

Ian and John did the honours before the crucial last game of the season at home to Norwich, handing over the trophy to the 18-year-old defender, who also carried off the club's Player of the Year award.

John Townsend dedicated the presentation to the memory of his son Robert, who died last year, and fellow London Owl Christopher Grant snapped this picture of John and Ian presenting the 'top player' award to Mark.

* A reminder . . . if anyone is interested in playing in the scheduled London Owls cricket match against the London Blades at Battersea Park on Sunday, May 25 then please email Sean Clayton - clayton_sean@yahoo.ie - by the end of the week.

We're currently a long way short of an XI, so Sean will make a call on whether we can get a team together at the weekend.

Great send-off for Lee

Victory over Norwich also signalled a fond farewell for club skipper Lee Bullen.

Bullen, who led Wednesday to the play-off final win at Cardiff in 2005, was given a rapturous send-off during the players' lap of appreciation after Sunday's game, with his team-mates forming a guard of honour as he left the Hillsborough pitch for the last time.

Afterwards, an emotional Bullen said: "I won't hide the fact that there were tears in the eyes - but what a way to go in front of those magnificent fans."

Bullen selected three particular memories from his time at S6 - the match and send-off against Norwich, this season's win over Sheff Utd and, top of the list, the play-off final victory at Cardiff.

Laws: Glad it's all over

Brian Laws was a relieved man after seeing the Owls hit back from behind to ensure starting next season in the Championship.

"I'm glad it's over," said Laws, who also revealed afterwards that he would be having a drink or two on Sunday night to celebrate the crucial victory!

He added: "The nervousness within the game showed with everybody, particularly in the first half. I couldn't wait for half-time for us to regroup and to talk the team through what we needed to do."

Laws also revealed that the club had had to sell Glenn Whelan earlier in the season to bring in loan players. He said if we hadn't sold Whelan then we would not have been able to get the fresh blood which he says proved crucial in the relegation fight.
