George Hirst marked his return to competitive action for Wednesday with a goal for the under-23s in a 3-2 defeat at Leeds on Friday afternoon.
Hirst, who hasn’t played for the Owls for several months after failing to agree a new contract, levelled the scores at 2-2 with 15 minutes remaining … only for Leeds to snatch a winner on 88 minutes.
Wednesday had found themselves two-down inside the first two minutes but got back into the game soon afterwards when Hirst was fouled in the box and Almen Abdi scored from the resulting penalty.
