Heads held high as Owls bow out of FA Cup

Wednesday can take much heart from today’s injury-time FA Cup defeat at Manchester City.

We led through a move of Premier League class and finished by Atdhe Nuhiu after a quarter of an hour and City’s first shot on target was their equaliser on 66 minutes when James Milner fired home through Chris Kirkland’s legs.

City dominated the second-half, particularly after the introduction of David Silva and Samir Nasri, and Kirkland produced an excellent late save to defy Silva.

However, we finally succumbed in the first minute of added time when Milner turned the ball into the net from close range, with Wednesday vainly appealing for offside.

It was tough on the Owls but, in contrast to the League Cup thrashing in September, Wednesday could leave the Etihad with heads held high and in confident mood ahead of Saturday’s trip to Forest.
