Gray: We’ll be fielding strong side at Macclesfield

Stuart Gray will name a strong line-up at in the FA Cup at Macclesfield tomorrow … despite the enforced absence of Connor Wickham and Roger Johnson.

Loanee Wickham is ruled out as his parent club, Sunderland, do not want him cup-tied, while Johnson’s loan spell has expired and Wednesday hope to agree a new deal with his club, Wolves, despite reports of interest from promotion-chasing Derby.

Looking at the sellout third round tie at non-league Macclesfield, Gray said: “Obviously you would have the likes of Roger and Connor in your team  and they have been outstanding for us of late.

“But they will not be with us on Saturday and that gives two more players the  chance to claim the shirt. This is a squad game and when you get your chance, you have to be ready to  take it.

“We will be putting out a strong team, there is no question of that, because  we want to go as far as we can in one of the best competitions in the football  world.”

Miguel Llera is likely to get a recall in place of Johnson while Michail Antonio and Jermaine Johnson can be expected to be in contention to replace Wickham.
