Gray: We were undone by one piece of quality

Stuart Gray said he felt one piece of quality sent Wednesday to an undeserved defeat against Derby on Tuesday evening.

Gray was referring to Patrick Bamford’s spectacular winner for the Rams and said he could not fault the effort and commitment of the Owls, adding that we just did not get the bit of luck required in front of goal.

The head coach, who praised Michail Antonio’s display on his return to the starting line-up, said he thought Wednesday deserved at least a point from the night.

Gray was also pleased with the contribution from the three loanees who made their debuts during the 90 minutes. At the same time, he highlighted the difficulty for such players coming from the Premier League – and for the clubs they join – as they have often played little competitive football for their parent clubs, meaning they link up with teams like Wednesday and find themeselves having to get match fit during ‘game time’.
