Gray prepares to name club’s retained list

Stuart Gray was planning to have individual meetings with the players at Middlewood Road today to let them know of their futures – or not – at the club.

Several players are out of contract this summer and one of those, Miguel Llera, has already let fans know via his Facebook account that he will be leaving the club after two and a half seasons at S6.

Our longest-serving player, Jermaine Johnson, is also expected to be saying farewell after more than seven years at Hillsborough and there will be doubts over Reda Johnson’s future at Wednesday.

Gray said before the planned meetings: “It’s never a pleasant task but one that is part and parcel of being at a football club.

“There will be players leaving and they will be the first to know before the club make a statement, probably around the middle of next week.”

Anthony Gardner has already announced that he has left the club while Danny Mayor is reported to be ready to join division two Bury on a three-year contract.
