Gray pinpoints new striker as number one target at S6

Stuart Gray says a new striker is his first priority as he looks to strengthen the squad in the coming days.

The caretaker boss is hopeful of having at least one new face in the line-up for Saturday’s clash with Leeds and said of the search for new players: “We are trying to get players in. We have had yesses from clubs but we are now wanting yesses from the players.

“Unfortunately, where we are in the league is probably affecting that as other clubs in the top six might be higher up in the pecking order for the same players.

“We have irons in the fire and hopefully they will come through for Saturday’s game or, if not, for the following week.”

He said he was looking to strengthen the side in all areas – via loans at this stage – and that a new striker was top of his shopping list.

Referring to possibly being offered the manager’s job on a permanent basis, Gray said he still wanted the role. He confirmed that he had been expecting to see Milan Mandaric about the situation on Tuesday but that the chairman had been called away out of the country on other business and that they would now be discussing the matter after the Leeds game on Saturday.
