Gardner: Tony will bring success back to club

New coach Craig Gardner believes Tony Pulis will bring success back to Hillsborough.

Gardner joined Pulis for his first training session at Middlewood Road this morning and said: “I know Tony is going to bring success here and I want to be a part of that success.”

He played under Pulis at West Brom and added: “It’s a massive club and the opportunity to work with Tony again. It’s a good opportunity to get this club going again, to get the positivity back, get some results and watch them climb up the league.

“The way Tony works, the way he gets everyone together – the players, the staff, the club, the fans – I think that’s what this club needs at the minute. It needs that togetherness”

Gardner, 33, who took a player-coach role at Birmingham last year and became first team coach in the summer after retiring from playing, said: “I’d rather be a young coach than an old player. I’ve got goals and ambitions and when I spoke to Tony he talked me into it.”
