Gardner is latest sickness casualty and training ground shut down

Continuing problems with a sickness bug in the squad led to the training ground being closed for the day on Wednesday.

Anthony Gardner has been the latest victim and Dave Jones took the decision to shut the Middlewood Road HQ for 24 hours in a bid to prevent further problems ahead of Saturday’s home clash with fellow strugglers Peterborough.

Jones said: “It’s some type of bug that’s been in the club. One or two of those who have had it have been able to carry on. We hope that everybody will be ok for Saturday.”

Meanwhile, long-term casualty Chris Lines played the first 45 minutes of a behind-closed-doors friendly with Doncaster on Tuesday as he continues his recovery from a groin problem and Rhys McCabe played for an hour after his thigh injury. Wednesday won 4-2 with goals from Danny Mayor 2, Nejc Pecnik and a triallist.
