Four-goal Wednesday go through to fourth round

Wednesday moved through to the fourth round of the FA Cup and a trip to Rochdale with a fitful performance in a 4-1 win over non-league Macclesfield at Hillsborough tonight.

Chris Maguire put us in the driving seat with a third minute goal and Wednesday went on to dominate the first-half but failed to turned possession into goals.

The visitors turned in a much-improved second-half display and were back on level terms on 64 minutes when Joe Mattock was penalised for handball and Scott Boden converted from the spot.

Macclesfield then missed a great chance to go in front when Scott Kay hit the bar six minutes later as they enjoyed their best spell of the game and looked as though they might cause an upset.

However, the Owls hit back with three goals in the last 13 minutes – Jacques Maghoma making it 2-1, sub Jermaine Johnson cracking home a third from long range and then Miguel Llera heading a fourth in added time to leave a rather flattering final scoreline for Wednesday and the majority of the 12,302 crowd.
