Fletcher on way back to full fitness

Stephen Fletcher is ahead of schedule on his way back to full fitness and may even get a surprise early recall to the Wednesday squad at Birmingham on Saturday.

Fletcher has been badly missed up front since suffering a knee injury in the FA Cup win at Brighton early last month but has trained all week and Garry Monk said today: “I haven’t spoken to him as yet, I’ve let him get on with things and I’ll speak to him tomorrow in terms of how he feels.

“It’s a big ask to expect him to play 90 minutes with intensity but it’s a positive feeling with him being back out there.”

He added: “He’s been brilliant with his rehab and has trained all week. It’s only his first week but he’s a fit lad anyway, so we’ll make a decision on him.”

Morgan Fox (ankle) could also make the squad but Massimo Luongo (calf), Adam Reach (toe) and Moses Odubajo (hamstring) are all still ruled out.

Young defender Osaze Urhoghide is also banned for one game following his sending off at home to Reading last weekend.

We go into the match with just one win in our last 10 league games while Birmingham, one of Monk’s former clubs, are unbeaten in seven Championship games.
