Five in a row as strike pair pounce

A fifth successive win further strengthened our play-off hopes as Wednesday fought back from behind to defeat Derby 2-1 at Hillsborough.

Steven Fletcher’s diving header on 58 minutes and a close-range opportunist effort from Gary Hooper six minutes later proved decisive after Darren Bent had headed Derby in front just after half time.

Fletcher had already headed against the bar within a minute of Derby’s opener and Wednesday might have pressed home our advantage further for a period after taking the lead.

However, we then allowed Derby to regroup and this led to a typically nervy finish from the Owls.

Keiren Westwood produced an outstanding late save to keep out Chris Baird’s close-range effort, so ensuring our first win over the Rams in 18 attempts and, more importantly, edging us ever closer to a shot at the play-offs for a second season in a row.
