‘Fans can make S6 difficult for visitors’

Head coach Carlos Carvalhal praised the Wednesday fans after today’s win over St Mirren and talked of how the supporters can play their part in helping to improve home form in the upcoming season.

Referring to our dismal home record in the last campaign, Carvalhal said he knew the side had problems winning games at Hillsborough and said he hopes the fans will ensure S6 becomes a difficult environment for visiting teams to experience in the coming months.

He said: “We need to feel the power of the fans, starting against Bristol City next week. You could feel that today, particularly early on, and we need that positive atmosphere throughout the 90 minutes.”

The Wednesday coaching team also took up their touchline positions in the right-hand dugout, having favoured the left-hand area in recent years, and Carvalhal said that, while he isn’t superstitious, he decided to make the change after last season’s poor home form and hopes it will lead to an upturn in results at Hillsborough.
