Ex-Owls midfielder Bobby Hope dies, aged 78

Former Wednesday midfielder Bobby Hope has died at the age of 78.

The Scottish international was signed by Len Ashurst in the mid-seventies and went on to make 43 appearances for the Owls, plus three as substitute, also scoring nine goals.

The majority of those games came in the 1976-77 season as Ashurst began to set the early foundations for his successor, Jack Charlton.

Bobby left Wednesday to return to play in the United States.

He had made his name at West Brom in the sixties, where he played more than 400 times, and was also capped by Scotland on seven occasions.

The London Owls send our condolences to Bobby’s family at this sad time.
