Euros disappointment for Owls youngster

Ashley Baker was in the Wales under-21 starting line-up as they bowed out of the European championships at the qualifying stages, following a 2-0 defeat to Portugal in Bangor on Tuesday evening.

The reverse means that the young Wednesday defender, who was later substituted, and his Welsh team-mates cannot now qualify for next year’s finals in Italy and San Marino.

Josh Onomah, on loan at Hillsborough for the rest of the season from Tottenham, was an 89th minute substitute for the England under-21s as they took another step towards European Championship qualification with a 2-1 win in Latvia.

It means that England now need just one more point to make the 2019 finals.
