Keiren Westwood’s dreams of playing in next summer’s World Cup Finals ended in Dublin on Tuesday evening.
Westwood, who would have expected to be in the squad for the finals, was an unused substitute as the Republic of Ireland were thrashed 5-1 by Denmark in their second leg play-off decider.
With the first leg having finished goalless, the Republic’s hopes of making the finals in Russia were left well and truly in tatters.
