EFL fixtures to continue despite Covid-19 increases

The EFL confirmed late this afternoon that the season will continue and there will be no immediate shutdown of its fixture programme, despite the continued rise in positive Covid-19 cases.

A statement released by the governing body acknowledged that there is likely to be future postponements due to Covid outbreaks at clubs but said it believes fixture disruption can be minimised after the implementation of RED protocols, a daily testing regime and ongoing vaccination rollout.

Our scheduled home game with Accrington on Saturday was postponed due to a Covid outbreak amongst the Wednesday squad and we wait to see if the planned Boxing Day clash at Hillsborough with Burton Albion gets the go ahead.

The Premier League’s 20 clubs have chosen to fulfil their festive fixtures after they met today.
