‘Deadlock continues’ over Hirst contract

Talks between Wednesday and young striker George Hirst over a possible new contract look to have failed to progress.

Hirst, 18, has not played for our development squad this season and chairman Dejphon Chansiri indicated at Wednesday evening’s Steering Group meeting that the player’s contract situation remains unresolved.

Wednesday are reported to have turned down bids for Hirst from Everton and Leicester since the turn of the year and the player would become a free agent in the summer if he does not agree new terms.

Head coach, Carlos Carvalhal, said on Thursday: “I’m the manager of the club but I’m not a person to do contracts and to talk about these things. It is something that is completely out of my orbit.”
