Dazed Kirkland left with gashed nose after late clash

Chris Kirkland was left dazed and cut after his heroics helped Wednesday to victory over Brighton.

Kirkland had already pulled off two important saves and Leon Best had scored what proved to be our last-gasp winner when the keeper was called into important action again, thwarting another Brighton attack which resulted in injury after a clash with a Seagulls striker.

He received lengthy attention and Damian Martinez was set to come on but Kirkland recovered to play on for the closing minute or two.

Stuart Gray said Kirkland felt the player had gone in unnecessarily in the challenge and said the keeper had been left dazed and with a gashed nose.

Meanwhile, Gray said that Sam Hutchinson was subbed at half-time after suffering a knee injury.
