Monk: Dawson will bounce back from mistake

Garry Monk believes keeper Cameron Dawson will bounce back after his mistake led to Barnsley’s equaliser in our
1-1 draw at Oakwell.

Dawson’s miscued clearance gave Cauley Woodrow the chance to equalise, a similar error to the one that led to a goal at QPR in the recent cup tie, but Monk said afterwards: “When goalkeepers make mistakes, nine times out of 10 it will lead to a goal scoring situation.

“He made a mistake and it got them their equaliser but that is the life of a goalkeeper. He will bounce back from that. I know he will.”

The Owls boss spoke of an overall lack of composure with the ball at times, with both sides struggling in the swirling wind and on a heavy pitch which was cutting up.

He said: “At times, we showed the right composure and looked a threat but we probably didn’t show that composure enough and that led to some mistakes.

“We had a great chance right near the end but overall the battle was there, we were competing but lacked that composure more often than not.”

Monk picked an attacking line-up, with debuts for deadline day loan signings Connor Wickham and Josh Windass and a first start for Alessio Da Cruz,, and although we only managed two shots on target he said: “Those players haven’t played a lot of minutes recently, we’re trying to get them up to speed and fitness and you could see the threat we had when we showed the right composure.”
