Cowley responds to S6 manager links

Lincoln boss Danny Cowley has responded to reports linking him with becoming Wednesday’s new manager.

Cowley was in charge of Lincoln for their EFL Trophy defeat at Doncaster on Tuesday evening, with his brother Nicky as assistant, and when asked about possible talks between Wednesday and the Imps, he reportedly said: “I have no idea. It’s news to me.”

Cowley confirmed they had turned down an approach from Huddersfield about their vacant manager’s position as they decided it wasn’t the right choice at this time and he added: “For us to consider moving our families and ourselves from this football club it would have to be the perfect opportunity.”

Cowley, with Nicky, have steered Lincoln from the National League and up to Division One since taking over at Sincil Bank in May 2016 and if a move to Hillsborough did materialise then it would include both of them.

However, such an appointment would represent a big gamble in terms of the pair taking over a dressing room of seasoned players, while they have no experience of managing at Championship level.

Caretaker boss, Lee Bullen, said after Saturday’s home defeat to QPR that he expected to have a meeting with chairman Dejphon Chansiri during the current international break, with regard to future plans.
