Club and player ‘unaware of court date’

Wednesday have confirmed that both the club and Fernando Forestieri were unaware that the player was meant to appear in court on Friday.

An arrest warrant was issued for Forestieri after he failed to attend Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on charges of using threatening words and behaviour and racially aggravated harassment, arising out of our pre-season game at Mansfield Town on July 24.

However, Wednesday have issued a statement which says: ‘We can confirm that neither the club, Forestieri nor his legal team were aware of this court date and thus the arrest warrant for his failure to attend court will not now be pursued and a new court date is to be arranged.

The club will be making no further comment at this stage.’
