Carvalhal rues injury blows

Carlos Carvalhal reflected on injuries not helping Wednesday’s cause in the 2-0 Capital One Cup defeat at Stoke.

The Owls, already missing the injured Barry Bannan and Keiren Westwood, lost Tom Lees in the first half and then central defensive partner Glenn Loovens limped off 13 minutes from time. Added to this, Jack Hunt was also subbed at half time after picking up an injury.

Carvalhal said: “On another day the result could have been different.

“We had some problems with players who couldn’t play here tonight. Then during the game we had some players who have picked up injuries which made things even more difficult.

“Their keeper didn’t have a lot to do tonight, but neither did Joe for us.”

He added:”I’m not unhappy with the team, I thank the fans who pushed the team all the way. The fans are amazing. They are unbelievable. We give everything for them on the pitch.”
