Carlos: The players … the fans … the dream

Carlos Carvalhal is hoping to emulate the success and togetherness of some of his previous managerial experiences after an encouraging first six months at Hillsborough.

Carvalhal came to S6 with a cv of 14 jobs in 14 years but that included some outstanding seasons and the Wednesday head coach has reflected on the successful spells and the relationship he built with the fans.

Two of his highlights were taking third division Leixoes to the Portuguese cup final and into the UEFA Cup in 2002 and then five years later when he got Vitoria de Setubal promoted and steered them into the UEFA Cup.

On both occasions – and at other clubs – Carvalhal said he had a great connection with the supporters … and he hopes it can continue to be the same at Wednesday.

He has already proved popular with the Owls fanbase and we wait to see if, as in the words of the song from the stands, Carlos’ dream comes true and he leads us back to the Premier League.

Carvalhal said: “Maybe there is a feeling we can do something good at Sheffield Wednesday and we are doing good at this moment.

“We are in a good way and when I have this kind of connection it is good for my self-motivation. I still think of football as being me, the players and the fans – this is what I like.”
