Carlos Carvalhal said he understood the angry reaction from sections of the Wednesday fans after Saturday’s insipid performance in defeat at Preston.
Reacting to the team and himself being booed by supporters, he said: “Absolutely I understand. Our fans are fantastic, they follow us everywhere and we had many thousands here today.
“There was not much for them to enjoy because we did not perform anywhere near the levels that we are capable of.”
Carvalhal added that the team have always responded positively after similar results in his time in charge and he expects the same this time around.
Reflecting on the performance, Carvalhal said: “Today we absolutely did not deserve to win the game. We did not do the things we normally do, we didn’t play enough football and there were too many long balls.
“We didn’t get to enough second balls, Preston won the majority of them.”
