Carlos dedicates victory to Fletcher family

Carlos Carvalhal dedicated Wednesday’s victory at Huddersfield to striker Steven Fletcher and his family.

Fletcher, who missed the win due to “personal issues”, sent the team a good luck message before the match and afterwards Carvalhal dedicated the success to the striker and his family.

Reflecting on the performance, Carvalhal said: “It was a victory of strong qualities. We talked earlier in the week about needing better quality from Hooper and Fernando. We needed them to upgrade and they did so today.”

Carvalhal added: “They connected with the team, they were the first defenders and we acted like a team for 90 minutes.”

Referring to Forestieri, he said: “He was considered man of the match how I like it … he worked hard for the team and at the same time he upgraded us with his quality.”

Talking further about the overall display, the head coach said: “Huddersfield have a very good dynamic and create a lot of problems for the opponents but they played today against a team ready to play against them, to  block the dynamic and they had problems creating chances.

“We also wanted to win the game and the way we explore when we win the ball was crucial to winning the game.

“Even though they had more of the ball, we controlled the game and created the more clearcut chances.”
