Buxton sidelined after new injury blow

Lewis Buxton is expected to sit out the next fortnight of Wednesday’s pre-season build-up after suffering a knee injury in training.

Buxton, who had his fair share of injury problems last season, missed the 2-0 win at York and Stuart Gray confirmed he was unlikely to be fit to return for a fortnight.

Central defender Kamil Zayatte was also absent through injury at Bootham Crescent but should be ready for action next week while Gray said he left new signing Keiren Westwood out of the squad as he felt the game had come a little too early for him following his recent move to S6.

Gray said of the game: “It was a good workout and it’s always nice to keep a clean sheet.

“It’s all about getting the fitness in and getting the running in especially on a hot day like today. In any conditions you have got to keep the ball simple, we could have scored more with a little more quality in front of goal but the pleasing thing is the workout and a win.

“We want to keep that winning mentality going right through pre-season.”
