Bruce: We lost to the better team

Steve Bruce admitted that Leeds were deserved winners as Wednesday went down 1-0 at Elland Road on Saturday evening.

Speaking after the defeat, Bruce said: “The better team won without question.

“Overall Leeds played very, very  well and we struggled to match their intensity at times. They were terrific in their work and we found it a big struggle.

“We found it very difficult to find a pass, we gave it away far too often and a lot of that is down to Leeds and the way they worked in and out of possession.”

Bruce was also full of praise for Keiren Westwood for his excellent display, saying: “He’s been terrific for us and produced arguably the save of the season in the first half.”

Without totally ruling out any chance of the play-offs after a defeat that leaves us six points adrift with just four games to play, Bruce said: “We gave ourselves a wonderful opportunity to get there but unfortunately we’ve lost twice in a week to Aston Villa and to Leeds, the in-form team in the league and a team that looks like they are going to be promoted.”
