Bruce: We didn’t get what we deserved

Steve Bruce said Wednesday didn’t get what they deserved after seeing his former club Villa strike twice in added time to take all three points at Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon.

With the sides locked at 1-1, we looked much the more likely side to get a winner in the second half, only for Villa to run out victors and leaving Bruce to reflect ruefully: “We’re all going home disappointed. Sometimes in football you don’t get what you deserve and that was the case today.

“The way we played, the way we went about it I couldn’t have asked for anything more. They played fantastically well, we’ve missed a big opportunity, we missed that penalty, but it’s not our day.

“Sometimes when you’re going for the play-offs it’s not about how you play it’s about the results and Aston Villa go home today knowing they got that result but were very fortunate.”

The defeat is a big blow to our outside chance of a play-off place, trailing sixth-placed Bristol City by six points, but Bruce added: “It’s not over yet and while ever we’ve got a chance we will keep on fighting.”
