Bruce to face Tractor Boys in ‘first game’

Steve Bruce will kick off his managerial career at Wednesday with a trip to Ipswich on February 2.

His expected appointment was confirmed on Wednesday but he won’t be able to take up the role until February 1 due to a prior personal commitment.

Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence, his assistants at previous club Aston Villa, will be with Bruce at S6 and will take charge of the first team until his arrival.

Lee Bullen will continue in a coaching role after his four-game unbeaten spell as caretaker boss.

Bruce met with the players at the training ground on Wednesday morning and told the squad they would all be given the opportunity to impress.

After his opener at current bottom club, Ipswich, Bruce has home matches with Reading and Swansea and trips to Millwall and Rotherham – before the derby showdown with Sheff U at Hillsborough on March 2.
