Bruce ‘set to be named new boss’

Wednesday look poised to name Steve Bruce as our new manager.

Reports following the 1-1 draw with Birmingham on New Year’s Day indicate that Bruce is likely to succeed Jos Luhukay as Wednesday boss in the next 24 hours.

He has been the odds-on favourite to take charge since Luhukay was sacked before Christmas and his assistants from his previous job at Aston Villa – Stephen Clemence and Steve Agnew – watched our recent games against Preston and then at Middlesbrough.

It was also reported that Bruce, who lost both his parents during 2018, had already planned a family holiday over the festive period and so would not be available until the New Year.

If the appointment goes ahead as thought then Bruce will take charge of the Owls for the first time in the FA Cup third round tie with Luton Town at Hillsborough on Saturday.

One of the first questions amongst fans will be where Bruce’s arrival would leave current caretaker boss Lee Bullen after his record of two wins and two draws in his short time in temporary charge.
