Bruce confirms he has had Newcastle talks

Steve Bruce has confirmed that he has had talks with Newcastle about becoming their new manager.

Speaking after seeing Wednesday beat Lincoln 3-1 in a friendly on Saturday, Bruce said: “Out of respect, I thought it was only right that I go and talk to Newcastle. It was over before it started and thankfully the chairman gave me permission to go and have a conversation. We will see what develops after that.”

He added: “Look, it has happened so quickly that I have got to take stock of the situation. It’s in the hands of both clubs and we will see what develops over the next 24 to 48 hours.”

Wednesday are reportedly wanting more compensation than Newcastle are willing to pay for the loss of Bruce and his coaching staff of Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence.

However, with the start of the season fast approaching it is in the interests of both clubs to conclude the deal – or not – as quickly as possible.
