Bothroyd signs in for Wednesday on transfer deadline day

Jay Bothroyd has come through the Hillsborough ‘in-door’ on transfer deadline day.

The 30-year-old striker joins us on loan until January from Queen’s Park Rangers, having made 24 appearances for them last season and scoring two goals.

It is also a case of linking up with his old boss again, as the full England international played under Dave Jones at Cardiff, and it further underlines Jones’ intentions to turn Wednesday into a real attacking threat in the Championship.

Meanwhile, going the other way are winger Mike Jones and midfielder Giles Coke – Jones having signed for Crawley Town while Coke links up with ex-Owls favourite Paolo di Canio in a loan move to Swindon which will see him at the County Ground until January.

* Rhys McCabe, who has impressed since joining from Rangers, has been called up for the Scotland under-21 squad to play two Euro Championship games against Luxembourg and Austria over the next ten days. However, he won’t miss any Wednesday matches as we have a blank weekend next week due to internationals.
