Boss speaks on Lavery international call-up

Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill has spoken of Caolan Lavery’s first call-up to the full international squad.

The young Wednesday striker has been named in the squad for the friendly against Qatar at Crewe on 31 May and then the Euro 2016 qualifier with Romania in Belfast on 13 June

O’Neill had wanted Lavery to go on the South America tour last summer but he was unavailable because of a wedding and the manager said of this call-up: “When you name a squad of 28 players, it’s important that you have an eye on development and Caolan has made a breakthrough at club level in the Championship.

“It’s good to get him into the squad and have a look at him. Also, we have to consider his eligibility as he has a number of choices as to who he can play international football for.”
