Boss Jos delighted with league lift-off

Jos Luhukay was quite rightly delighted after seeing his Wednesday side chalk up their first league victory under the new boss.

Following the 2-0 win over Derby, Luhukay said: “It is a a great feeling. I am very happy for my team and for our fans.

“It was not an easy game and we had to put in 90 minutes of hard work.”

Speaking about two-goal Lucas Joao, Luhukay said he has been in very good form since the new manager arrived and said of his display: “Today it was a good performance from him and it was also important that, together with Jordan Rhodes, they held up many balls for the first 45 minutes.

“Then, his second goal just after half-time was mentally for the team very important.

“We are a team that is fighting for each other. It was a game where we were fighting for the three points at the end and that makes me very positive.”

He said that we had created more chances in the recent goalless home draw against Cardiff but that it is about taking those opportunities, as highlighted against Derby when we had only three shots on target but scored twice.

The boss also said they don’t talk to those selected about the players who are missing, explaining:  “With the team that plays, it is very important we give them the confidence and the trust.”
