Connor Wickham has today returned to Sunderland after the Black Cats exercised the 24-hour recall clause in his loan agreement.
The striker was expected to play the last game of his current loan spell at Millwall tomorrow night but now Sunderland have acted more swiftly and Wickham could be in action for them at Stoke on Wednesday.
Stuart Gray, speaking at his pre-match press briefing this morning, was confident we would be able to hang on to Wickham but Sunderland’s decision has scuppered those plans – for the time being at least.
