‘Best away display in my time at the club’

A delighted Jos Luhukay rated Wednesday’s 2-1 win at Villa as the best away performance in his time at Hillsborough.

Luhukay, who was critical of the team’s poor showing at Forest in midweek, made five changes for the Villa trip and was rewarded with a vastly improved display, along with the three points.

After seeing the team play with cohesion, belief and both physical and mental strength, the Owls boss said: “I think this is the best away game we have played in my time here.”

Luhukay, who admitted how the team can be unpredictable, said he could see that the players were mentally strong from the start at Villa Park and showed a belief in each other, adding: “We played a brilliant game, scored two good goals and deserved to win.

“It has made me very happy and I’m proud of my players. They showed great spirit.”

Referring to the promise of young left back Matt Penney, Luhukay said he had rested him at Forest on Wednesday evening.

He was recalled for the Villa game and the Owls boss said of his performance: “He is unbelievable … I have a feeling he has been playing 10 years in the first team in the left back position.

“He plays with no fear, he is not afraid, he is a really good player for us and is a player for the future.”
