Battling Owls stretch unbeaten run to seven games

Wednesday made it seven games without defeat in a gutsy 1-1 draw at promotion-chasing Burnley.

The point keeps us in 19th place, two points behind Bolton – who were thrashed 7-1 at Reading – with Birmingham a further point clear. Below us, we are two points clear of the drop zone, with Barnsley, Yeovil, Doncaster and Millwall all gaining ground with victories while Charlton were beaten at Middlesbrough.

At Turf Moor, the home side dominated the first half and took the lead two minutes before the break through Sam Vokes … but the Owls hit back almost immediately with Chris Maguire firing us level from close range.

Wednesday had far more of the game in the second half and had vociferous claims for a penalty turned down when Maguire went over in the box, only to be shown a yellow card as referee Attwell deemed it a dive.

Burnley also posed plenty of attacking threat, Liam Palmer cleared off the line, Danny Ings hitting the post and then Chris Kirkland pulling off an excellent save in the dying seconds to deny Ings what would surely have been the winner.
