Battling Owls move into play-off position

Wednesday moved into the play-off places after a well-deserved 1-1 draw at Cardiff.

The home side took the lead on nine minutes when Peter Whittingham fired home a 20-yard free kick and we suffered another blow when Keiren Westwood was forced off with an injury in the 33rd minute, Cameron Dawson coming off the bench to take his place in goal, as he did in the last home match with Brighton.

Wednesday rallied despite the double setback and, after going close through Gary Hooper and Adam Reach in the first half, we found ourselves back on level terms 10 minutes into the second period, Daniel Pudil turning home Gary Hooper’s low cross from 12 yards.

Spurred on by the equaliser, Wednesday dominated for a good part of the second half, with Ross Wallace firing over after another excellent move.

A winning goal was not to be but the draw lifts us above Bristol City and into sixth place on 21 points.
