Battling Owls ‘deserve three points’ as Semedo sees red

A much-improved Wednesday could count themselves unfortunate not to take all three points in a  1-1 draw at Bolton this afternoon.

We fell behind on 16 minutes when Jermaine Beckford struck but were level 10 minutes later with an own goal from Alex Baptiste and were more than a match for the home side in the first half.

The Owls thought they had clinched that long-awaited victory in a battling second-half display when sub Jermaine Johnson’s header went directly into the net, only to be disallowed when the assistant referee flagged another Wednesday player offside … even though he did not appear to touch the ball.

Jose Semedo then left the field in tears five minutes from time when he was controversially dismissed for a foul and the Owls were indebted to Chris Kirkland who pulled off two excellent last-gasp saves to prevent Bolton grabbing an undeserved three points.

At the final whistle, it was Wednesday who were the more disappointed side in terms of only gaining one point and the players showed their appreciation of another great following by throwing their shirts into the travelling Wednesdayites at the end of an all-action 90 minutes.
