Bannan boost ahead of Hull challenge

Barry Bannan will be back in the Wednesday line-up for Saturday’s trip to in-form Hull and Sam Hutchinson also has a good chance of making the squad.

Bannan took a heavy knock on the knee which forced him off just before the end of last weekend’s cup tie with Luton while Hutchinson limped off early in the game with a groin injury.

Caretaker manager Steve Agnew says Bannan will be fit to play after looking sharp in training this week while Hutchinson, who has also been training, will be assessed ahead of the trip to face a Hull side who have pulled away from the relegation places after losing just one of their last 12 Championship matches.

Agnew, who had a spell at Hull with new boss Steve Bruce and fellow coach Stephen Clemence, said: “We have to be organised and have a platform and structure to move forward and create chances. We will have to be on top of our game defensively. But that’s not just for tomorrow but in all the games.”

Hull have also won their last five league games and Agnew added: “This is the Championship and any team at any time can go on a run as Hull have seen in recent games.

“We feel we have a squad capable of climbing up this league. Through what I’ve seen this week, we are really looking forward to tomorrow.”

We go into the game on the back of a five-match unbeaten run and sitting in 16th place on 32 points – 11 away from the play-off positions and 10 clear of the relegation zone.
